Adelaide Comets Vs Western District Toros

April 24, 2006 at 5:54 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

On Sunday the 22.4.2006 we played the first round of the Cup against Toros. Toros are a very young junior soccer club who were found about three years ago in Pennington. We played the game home and had to win this game to go through to the next round of the cup.

We had played W.Toros before in the pre-seoson and defeated them 6-2. They are in our league but anyway this was a cup game and wasn't worth any points. Half of the Toros team are africans and a few of them go to my school (W.H.S). Some of these african boys are very skillfull with the ball and they are very good players as well.

The game started at 8.45 and I had to start off the bench due to a slightly back injury which I had picked a few weeks ago. Our opponent had a good start and they were 1-0 up in the first ten minutes but we got back and equalised just after five minutes they scored.  Thirty minutes had been played and the scored was still 1-1.  Our defence made nasty mistake after 30 minutes and Toros took the advantage and made it 2-1.  Just after they scored the third goal of the match, they got the fourth one ten minutes before half time and we were down 3-1.  We got a goal just before half time only to make it 3-2.  And this is how the first half ended with my absence from the field.

In the half time break as normally our coach (Alan) told us what we did wrong, the mistakes and all that.  He made two half time substitutes, putting me and Matt on.  We went hard right from kick off and it paid off just after 5 minutes of the second half.  I was playing on the right wing, i recieved the ball from defence, went past one of the defenders, crossed the ball in and our stricker (Tom) headered the ball in.  He made it 3-all.  After this goal it was one way traffic really.  We played attacking football and scored 3 goals in the last 30 minutes of the game.  We destroyed their defence and they didn't have the confidence they had in the first half.  They were arguing with each other which made it easier for us.  The game ended 6-3 and we moved on to the second round of the Cup.  We expected the game to be easy but you never know what happens in football.  Next Sunday we have a league game against Adelaide Cobras away.

First Person Shooter

April 10, 2006 at 1:38 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

The film (First Person Shooter) is about Robin Benger who tells the story of his son Griffin and three of his other friends who had all got addicted to violent video games.  His son got addicted to a first person shooter game called Counter Strike (C.S) after he played it with his mates.  When Robin took his son’s computer, his son took on to the streets and started coming home late usually ending up downtown in his favourite video game shop.

Mr. Benger investigated the other kid’s parents and they had similar stories and felt the same way as him.  So Robin then took a risk and took his son and his other three friends to a Counter Strike tournament in Washington D.C after he had taken permission from the boys parents.  He knew that the boys would get more addicted to the game but he felt like taking the risk.  It was a B.Y.O.C (Bring Your Own Computer) tournament so the boys had taken their computers.  In the tournament the boys did pretty well, they got to the final four and lost after trying their best.

It wasn’t only his son who had got addicted to video games in fact throughout the movie he sees and talks about how thousands of other teenagers have got addicted to violent video games.  He met people like Lt Col David Grossman who said that video games taught a young American teenager to kill in a schoolyard.  He also met other professionals and people who held meeting or seminars against violent video games and how they taught our teenagers to kill.  Robin felt that one particular game came between him and his son so he decided to do something about it.

2) What would you have done if you were the parents?

Well if I was the parent, I would ask nicely my son to choose between his life and the video games.  If he chooses the video games, I’ll then ask him to move out and live his own life with his (addicted to video games) mates.  This way he can do whatever he likes with his life and play violent video games 24 hours a day and seven days a week.  But if he chooses to live a normal life and have certain times to play video games.  I’ll be happy to let him live with in my place, then he can be a good son and help his daddy.

3)   Is it a concern that this might happen to either you or someone you know [video game addiction]? Explain

It’s probably not a concern to me because I am a responsible teenager.   I do play all kinds of games but I play them for a certain amount of time.  I couldn’t be stuffed playing video games 24/7 because it gets boring after a while.  If I played it 24/7, I wouldn’t have time to go to soccer training or play soccer games every Sunday or go out and have fun.  And thankfully none of my friends are addicted to video games neither they are video games nerds.  I mean they are all cool kids like me doing all kinds of stuff and they play a bit of video games but not too much.

 4)      In your opinion are video games addictive in a dangerous way?

I reckon video games are addictive in a dangerous way because when teenagers get addicted to them, they forget about most areas of their lives and they even threaten their parents for video games.

The Hilltop Hoods Concert

April 1, 2006 at 9:07 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

On Saturday 1/4/2006 my friends Caylem, Ash, Slater and I went to the Hilltop Hoods Concert.  Hilltop Hoods are a Aussie Hip Hop band and they started their music originally in Adelaide.  I am not really a big fan of the Hilltop Hoods and Aussie Hip Hop but I was draged to the concert by my Aussie friends.

My friends Caylem, Ash and Slater all go to Glenunga International High school.  They are all doing year 10 this year but I am older than them and I am of course doing year 11.

Okay so we all met up at my place (Brompton) and caught the bus to the concert which was going to start at 7.30 pm and we got there on time.  I didn't pay for the ticket of the concert as I said before I was draged by my mates and didn't mind going for free.  I don't really listen to Hilltop Hoods.  I listen to American Hip Hop and many other types of mixed music so I basically listen to everything I like.

The concert started and I think that the Hilltop Hoods music was good, they played songs from their newest album and couple of other good songs.  There were heaps of sick Aussie chicks in the concert.  I saw a couple people I knew.  The concert finished at around 10.00 pm and we headed to my friend Ash's place where I slept over on Saturday night.  That night I had to go to bed early beacuse on the Sunday morning I had a soccer game.  On the Sunday we were going to play Raiders some croatian based club who was thrashed by us last year 7-1 in other words we kicked thier ass in 2005.

Okay overall I had a long and fun Saturday with the concert, my friends and everything but I had fun and now I am a bit familiar with Aussie Hip Hop.

Problem 11

March 31, 2006 at 4:43 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

11) Push a rock

Okay this probelm was one of the easiest I have faced.  You get two objects, any object of your choice.  I got a bear to push the rock.

Information about object: bear

Sprite: sprite0
Solid: false
Visible: true
Depth: 0
Persistent: false
Parent: <no parent>
Mask: <same as sprite>

In the object properties of the bear (rock-pusher), I went to add event and clicked on [Keyboard] and selected [<Right>] with the action (jump to a given position) x=4, y=0.

Information about object: rock
Sprite: sprite1
Solid: false
Visible: true
Depth: 0
Persistent: false
Parent: <no parent>
Mask: <same as sprite>

In the object properties of the rock I had the event [Collision event with object bear] with these actions (if an expression is true) expression=bear.direction=0, [If a position is collision free] (24,0) and only solid objects, then drag [Jump to a given position] (24,0).

If you do all these correctly, the problem will work, the rock will be followed by the chosen object.

Probelm 10

10) A character jumps up off a platform, and return under the influence of gravity – you cannot jump from midair

Information about object: The Jump-guy

Sprite: sprite1
Solid: false
Visible: true
Depth: 0
Persistent: false
Parent: <no parent>
Mask: <same as sprite>

Okay another problem to ready to be solved. First go to add event and add the event [Step]. From the (control) tab drag (If a Position is collision free) with x=0, y=1 and objects=only solid, into the action section. Then drag (set the gravity) with direction=270 and gravity=1. From the [Control] drag (else) into the action section and again drag (set the gravity) with the direction=0 and gravity=0 into the action section.

Then place your wall object (wall-real in my case) into the events section with the action (start moving in a direction) with 0 speed. I also added another object to be destroyed by the jumper when the object is collided with the jumper. For this to occur you need to get the action [Destroy the instance].

Get the keyboard event [<Left>] with the action jump to a given position (-4,0). After this get Keyboard event for [<Right>] with the action jump to a given position (4,0). Then get press event for [<Up>] with these two actions [if a position is collision free] (0,1) Only solid objects and [set the vertical speed] with the vert. speed to -12. After you do all this, create a [room] and place your jumper, the walls and the an extra object if you want to have one in your room.

If you do all the above actions correctly your game will work. Test your game and see if it works.

To help me solve problem 10, my friend Cerspo assisted me with this probelm and I reckon that this probelm wasn't that hard to solve.

The Yellow monster is the jumper

problem 9

March 30, 2006 at 2:10 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

A character fires a bullet and has to wait one second before being able to fire the next bullet

Okay first I opened my probelm 8 and saved another version naming it problem 9.  Then I opened my shooting character which in my case was the yellow monster.  I went to event (create) with the action (set variable canshoot to 1).  Event (alarm 0) and (set variable canshoot to 1).  I opened up the (press spacebar) event.  In the (press spacebar) event I had the following actions, (if an expression is true), (create instance of an object object7 at position (object6.x,object6.y), (set variable canshoot to 0), (set Alarm 0 to 90) then put these actions between (start of a block) and (end of a block).

Event (<press left>) with the action (start moving in a direction) with the speed 5.  Event (press <right>) with the action (start moving in a direction) with the speed 5.  Then the event (release <Left>) with the same action (start moving in a direction).  Then the event (release <Right>) with the same action (start moving in a direction).

Well if you do all these actions properly the game will work, The character will shoot after one second.

My teacher did this problem for me just to give me an idea of the probelm then I deleted his and did it myself so in other words he helped me with this probelm.

Fifa World Cup 2006

March 29, 2006 at 12:41 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

For those of you who don't know much about soccer (called football worldwide), it is a beautiful game and millions of people play it around the world daily. It is the biggest sport in the world and every four years we a Fifa World Cup.

The world Champions (Brazil) have won the tournament five times which is a record and I reckon that they might make it six times this year but who knows what's going to happen this year.

Our own nation Australia have qualified for this years event after beating the mighty South American side Uraguay (two times world cup champions). Australia first qualified for the world cup back in the 1970's and 2006 is only the second time Australia is attending the world cup. Australia has the mighty Brazil in thier group and Crotia and Japan. I reckon that Australia shouldn't have problem with the Japanese and Crotians but God knows what's gonna happen to them when they face the South Americans.

Now comes to the favourites for the world cup, I reckon that the top ten would be starting from the most favourites.

1. Brazil  2. Germany (Host Nation and runners up 2002)  3. England (they have the classic midfiled)  4. Argentina  5. France  6. Spain  7. Czech Republic  8. Italy   9. Portugal  10. Mexico

Well I reckon these giants are the top ten favourites.  These year it's gonna be huge in Germany, people will be watching the world cup all over the world.  When it comes to me, I will be wathcing the whole 64 games of the wolrd cup.  I'll be probably late to school for the whole June and the start of July.

I left comments on cerspo, JRB01 and Pikmik blogs. I thought that some of this blogs that they did were detailed and well done.

In the comments I encouraged these students to keep it up and keep working hard. Some of the blogs that my class-mates did were incredible and they are hard-working students, except Cerspo who is just a cool-boy.

Well Checking other people's blogs was good because I got to know heaps about these people and thier personalities. Keep it up boys and I am proud of you's specailly my son Cerspo.

Adelaide Comets Vs White City Woodville

March 28, 2006 at 3:31 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Last Sunday we played our first game of the season against White City.  This game was a disaster for us and at the same time, it was a good lesson too.

We lost the game 9-1.  They scored 5 goals in the first half and 4 goals in the second half.  We got a penalty in the first half and our stricker (Tom) scored from the spot.  I don't really want to talk about goals from this game.  There were a few mistakes from our defence, could have been 6-1 but this is soccer and mistakes happen.

After the game our coach talked to White City's coach and found out that seven of their players were from thier U19's squad.  From this game we learned that we have to be prepared through out the season to face sides like this, our coach told us that in the future we will face teams like White City who had half of thier team from a senior side.

Next time if we get teams with mostly older and bigger players than us, our team has decided that we will go hard, put pressure on our opponent and try our best.  Well you can't win every single game in soccer but it is a beautiful game, the more you play the better you get.

Problem 8

March 28, 2006 at 12:25 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

You have to hit a character 3 times with a bullet before it dies

I started off with this problem using my problem 4. I loaded up my problem 4.

I opened my enemy object and clicked on the create event. I draged the action [set the number of lives] into the actions category. I set the lives to 3. I clicked on the [collision with bullet event] which was already made from problem 4. I then draged [set the number of lives] into the actions section. Then I typed in -1 in the lives and clicked the relative box. I then deleted the change instance into explosion.

I clicked on the add event, step. I draged [if lives are equal to 0] into the actions. I clicked on this action and typed 0 in the [value] and equal to in the [operation]. After this I draged [start of a block] and [end of the block] into the actions. I then draged [change the instance into explode] between [start of block] and [end of a block]. I selected explode in the [change into] section and yes in the perform events section. So another problem finished.

I tested the game and it worked. The enemy, in my case [stop sign] exploded after being hit by 3 bullets released by the monster. With this problem JRB01 helped me out and I reckon he is a good student and usaully helps other students.
